Report December 2011
This very lively group is now entering its 2nd year, has 9 members and meet in members homes every Tuesday 10am -11.45am. Approximate level is Beginners Year 2. Not all members attend at any one time as many are frequent travellers to Spain, France and beyond and they usually try to travel out of season. The emphasis is very much on spoken Spanish and role play and a substantial amount of class time is devoted to this. We also do listening exercises (we listen to authentic Spanish spoken at native speed every week) and study elementary grammar where relevant. We read texts taken from elementary readers and other appropriate sources including the Internet. Themes studied include shopping, ordering food, snacks and drinks, asking the way, booking accommodation, talking about where we live, likes and dislikes and daily routine. The aim of the group is to enable its members to achieve a good working knowledge of basic Spanish and to be able to “cope” in the everyday situations they are likely to encounter during a visit to the country. Motivation is high as many members of the group own property in Spain and so are frequent visitors. Everyone visits the country at least once each year.
