We are a small gardening group, where we have short illustrated talks (usually from members) or we arrange to visit gardens/garden centres. A plant exchange operates at meetings.

Diamond Jubilee Tea Party
The Gardening Group are to mount a charity 'Plant Sales' stall at the Tea Party. The group is asking all members of the U3A membership to donate their own surplus plants to add to those produced by the group.

Please let the group coordinator (Ron Butler email: ButlerRnld@aol.com , telephone: see newsletter) know if you will be contributing.

Plants should be in a pot or container, preferably labelled. Please take them along on the day, or if bulky, contact the coordinator for prior collection.

Report December 2011

The aim of the group is to share and extend our knowledge and enjoyment of gardening and gardens. This is achieved by a mixture of talks and garden visits. Many of the talks are given by group members. These have included topics of gardening practise such as composting and winter preparation and those extending our knowledge of plants – Hostas, Penstemons and Colour in Plants are recent examples. Public lectures are attended where appropriate, such as a Ness RHS lecture on the Gardens of Wales. Garden visits are designed to see particular seasonal features such as spring flowers, perennial borders, autumn colour, garden design etc. The group meets monthly, Thursday, p.m., usually the week before or after the main U3A meeting, at the home of the co-ordinator. There are 24 members, with attendance usually 10 –15 depending on the activity and season. The meetings have developed into a friendly and informal gathering that includes a regular plant exchange.
