The group started in October 2010 as the Beginners' Bridge Group. The very encouraging progress we have made means that the group is no longer suitable for beginners. I have altered the title to reflect this. We will meet, as before, at the Rhodes Room, Bramhall Village Club, Lumb Lane, on Wednesdays mornings. We are currently taking a summer break, but will re-start on 12th September 2012.
We concentrate mainly on the duplicate form of the game. Most weeks we now play a simple competition in a very friendly spirit and with quite a lot of fun. Teaching is mainly in the form of asking questions and receiving advice during the play. From time to time, I do a short instruction on a specific topic before we start play.
We have at present, well over 20 members. I may be able to take in a few new members in September. To join us you would need to be able to play the Acol system at a simple level. You do not need to have previous experience of duplicate bridge. Unfortunately I can't take in any new beginners. I know there are a lot of people wanting to learn and if there is anyone else willing to start a new beginner's group, that would be very welcome.
I am very ably assisted by Lesley who is a great asset. Many thanks to her.
There is a small charge to cover the cost of the room. Depending on the number enrolled, this is likely to be around £10 to cover two to three months of meetings

Report December 2011
We meet at the Village Club, Lumb Lane, Bramhall every Wednesday 10am–12 noon. After a Summer break, we restarted on 7th September. All original 19 members continued and we have gained 8 new members, giving us a total membership of 27, with an average attendance of around 20 each week. Lesley a very experienced player is assisting me this time. Unfortunately, we cannot take on any more new members at present. Our emphasis is on the duplicate form of the game. The format of the sessions is to have short periods of instruction but most of the time we actually play hands, with the opportunity to ask questions during bidding and play. I think it is fair to say that most of us have reached a standard where we can enjoy a game of bridge at home with friends of a like standard. We hope to progress to the point where we can enjoy simple competitive bridge within U3A and possibly in a wider environment.
